The start of the first session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption


The first session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption has started today Sunday 27/12/2015 which will continue its work for two days at the headquarters of the League of Arab states in Cairo.  The kingdom’s delegation is headed by H.E. Dr. Khaled bin Abdulmohsen Al-Muhaisen, President of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, with the participation of the of members of the permanent mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Arab League.
H.E. the president of Nazaha emphasized, in the kingdom’s speech  which he delivered in the opening ceremony of the conference, on the keenness of the leadership to fight corruption and work to achieve the homeland and citizens’ interests, save public money, and to ensure punishing the negligent.  The kingdom has enacted a number of laws and adopted procedures to protect integrity and fight corruption. One of the effective measures adopted by the kingdom was the issuance of “the National Strategy of Maintaining Integrity and Fighting Corruption” in 2007, which aims to provide the appropriate environment for the success of development plans, especially economic and social ones, and contribute to the efforts of promoting Arab, regional and international cooperation.
The conference discussed in its first day a number of important topics, including: the adoption of the draft of the internal procedures of the conference and to consider ways and means of to achieve the objectives of the convention.
It is worth mentioning that Saudi Arabia joined the Arab Convention against Corruption under the royal decree No. M/36, on 03/06/1433H. The agreement includes provisions on the preventive measures to prevent corruption, and to identify the offenses established in accordance with the provisions of it. It also addresses the procedures asset recovery operations and the joint Arab cooperation.
