An official source in the Control and Anti-Corruption Authority stated in a statement that the authority began the procedures of investigation with a judge of the General Court in one of the regions of the Kingdom after receiving a report that the judge had received money (bribery) in pending cases he is overseeing and working on a business on the side. The results of investigations were conclusive on the validity of the report submitted against him, in addition to the mediator involvement which the judge appointed to receive these bribes in cooperation with the brother of the judge (a colonel ranked military officer). A businessman and a lawyer were involved in operating these crimes too, which included also money laundering, participation in the stealing public money, exploitation of job influence, and administrative misuse. The judge was arrested after completing the procedures of the Supreme Council of Magistracy based on the 68th clause of the judicial system, and all detainees have admitted to the charges against them and their cases are now being referred to the court after completing all the procedures against them. The Authority reaffirms that what the judge has done is an individual behavior that does not represent the integrity and competence of the judges in the Kingdom, it also appreciates the role of the Supreme Council of Magistracy and the Ministry of Justice in their continuous coordination in order to protect the independence of the judicial system and not to influence the judges work.
The Control An Anti-Corruption Authority also detained a group of people, citizens and residents, who broke the curfew order and offered and sums of money for security officers as bribes in exchange to release them and not to fine them, and some of them ended up assaulting the security officers after refusing to accept their bribes and caused some damage to official government vehicles. They were investigated and been referred to the general prison, and now work is underway to refer them to the to the criminal court in order to inflict the most severe penalties against them in exchange for violating orders and disregarding the efforts made by the official authorities to combat this pandemic and assaulting the security officers who dedicate it themselves to serve this country and its people.
The Authority will proceed with the implementation of its jurisdiction in accordance with the principle of the rule of law, and the application of regulations on anyone who illegally wastes public funds or the duties of their job, indicating that the violations of any of the employees or job duties are inconsistent with the approach of state institutions in providing services to citizens and residents with an administrative flexibility and procedural facilities that are in line with the regulations that achieve the public interest and the aspirations of the leadership, may Allah protect them.
